MP for Chipping Barnet, Theresa Villiers, received a Home Fire Safety Visit last weekend by Barnet Fire Brigade.
Barnet Fire Brigade are offering the free service to all Barnet residents in an effort to reduce the risk of injury and the number of needless fires caused by things like cigarettes, faulty electrical equipment, unattended candles or cooking. The Fire Brigade are regularly called to blazes in Barnet, but the majority of fires could be prevented by taking simple precautions.
Theresa Villiers MP said, “I would urge all Barnet residents to take advantage of this great free service by Barnet Fire Brigade. Getting the right advice is vital since working smoke alarms can save lives and the Fire Brigade were able to offer lots of useful tips to safeguard your home which are free and easy to carry out.”
“I found the advice given to me by our local fire service enormously useful including vital tips on the safest course of action in the event of fire. I am sure any constituent who follows my example will find a fire service home visit well worthwhile.”
Local Greater London Assembly Member, Brian Coleman, who is Chairman of the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority said, “I am delighted that under my leadership, all Barnet Residents are entitled to a free Home Fire Safety Visit. Theresa has led the way in having one and I would encourage all Barnet Residents to do likewise. Too many people across London die in fires that could have been prevented.”
