MP for Chipping Barnet, Theresa Villiers, has expressed her anger following the news that the 79 year old train robber, Ronnie Biggs, is likely to spend his final years in a Barnet nursing home paid for by the taxpayer, if he is released from prison next month. Under the rules of the criminal justice system, Biggs is entitled to nominate anywhere in the UK as his chosen place to live if he is given probation. MP for Chipping Barnet, Theresa Villiers, joined cyclists from across the borough on Sunday in starting off the Greenacre bicycle rally. The rally was organised by local environmentalists to highlight the benefits of cycling in the suburbs. Theresa joined the rally for the first two laps of the three lap course starting at the Arts Depot at Tally Ho Corner, going along Woodhouse Road and up Friern Barnet Lane. The event was formally opened by the Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Brian Coleman AM, accompanied by the Mayoress, Mrs Gladys Coleman. MP for Chipping Barnet, Theresa Villiers, has welcomed what looks to be the resurfacing of the old Barnet Market site on St. Albans Road, signalling that the market will be able to resume trading from the site when the lease to trade from Stapylton Road car park expires at the end of this month. Prior to this latest development, the market had been facing homelessness and was at risk of disappearing from Barnet altogether.
