VILLIERS: BARNET SHOULD NOT HAVE TO FOOT THE BILL FOR BIGGS

MP for Chipping Barnet, Theresa Villiers, has expressed her anger following the news that the 79 year old train robber, Ronnie Biggs, is likely to spend his final years in a Barnet nursing home paid for by the taxpayer, if he is released from prison next month.

Prior to this latest development, the market had been facing homelessness and was at risk of disappearing from Barnet altogether. The Council had offered to extend the lease on the market’s temporary home in Stapylton Road. However, the market’s owners, Mr and Mrs Walsh were reluctant to sign up. It... (continued)
